Maurice Sendak’s relationship with the Rosenbach Museum & Library goes back to 1966 thanks to shared literary and collecting interests. The interview clips that you see here and within the exhibition are taken from a series of interviews with Sendak from August 2007 to January 2008. Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum & Library Services, and the help of filmmaker Michael O’Reilly, these interviews document Sendak’s life and work, as well as some of his remarkable collections. The short clips here will give you a glimpse into Sendak’s artistic personality, sense of humor, working methods, and a few of his extraordinary stories. You will find many more stories within the exhibition itself.
